I know, I know. You have heard it a million times. Guess what? Here is a million & one: practice.self.care.
It is so important to be nice to yourself and to show yourself patience and understanding. Your body and your mind is yours for your entire life, and the way you treat yourself determines how well you take the way others treat you.
For instance, let's pretend you have a "tank" inside of your mind. Whenever your tank is full from self-love, it doesn't go looking for outside fillers.
I am not talking about every single day spending hours grooming yourself and going out to get manis & pedis every Friday with a marg in one hand and like... another marg in the other. Trust me, I get it. Shit gets tough. All I am saying is that you deserve all of the love and attention that you so effortlessly give to others.
If I asked you to name everything you have ever loved, how long would it take before you named yourself?
Here are 10 easy ways that you can practice self-love through self-care.
1. Cuddle with your four-legged bestie. Studies actually prove that pet ownership & animal therapy has positive effects on the human mind.
2. Write it down. Take out a scratch sheet of paper and write down everything that is bothering you, and then rip it up into a million pieces and trash it. It is no longer there to be of hinderance.
3. Take a steaming hot bubble bath with Epsom salt, light some smell-good candles, turn out the lights, & listen to music. Make your bathroom your own personal sauna. Sweat it out, relax, shave your legs, put coconut treatment on your hair, and wind down with a glass of wine.
4. Go for a walk. Put on your favorite sports bra and a cute workout outfit, pull your hair back in a ponytail, lather up in sunscreeen & don't forget your chapstick, grab a bottle of water, and enjoy some fresh air.
5. Drink some tea. Brew some warm chamomile uncaffeinated tea and cuddle up with a good book and a fluffy blanket.
6. Treat yourself to healthy food. Cut up some fresh, organic fruits and pour yourself some ice cold water. Sit outside on the porch and enjoy the sweetness, smell the air, and feel the warmth on your skin.
7. Go to a museum or an art gallery. Allow yourself to be awed by other peoples gift. Appreciate the beauty and the differences in each one. Walk slowly through and truly soak up the moment.
8. Have a day dedicated to cleaning. Light candles again (I like candles, always light candles), open the windows, sweep and mop, vacuum, dust, spray room freshener that has Orange and Rosemary essential oils, and always take time out to dance in your socks in the kitchen.
9. Grab a blanket and lay outside staring up at the stars. Be humbled at how small you are.
10. Share nice words with others. Give too many compliments, always offer your hand, smile at others, and as cliché as it is, treat others kindly. We are all fighting our own battles- you never know when you can turn around someones entire day.
lovin' you all,
Lo
